Artist Statement

For as long as I can remember, art has been my outlet. Whether I was expressing something I couldn’t put into words or simply filling a quiet afternoon, there was always a pencil in my hand. This artistic passion found its truest form in hand-drawn animation, which possesses such a timeless factor. One can feel the effort and soul of the animator behind each stroke of linework. There is something quietly miraculous in the way inanimate drawings suddenly come to life once the frames are stacked one on top of another.

Just like any other film medium, animation can be presented as a beautiful, rich, and serious piece, but it’s too often dismissed as children’s entertainment. This type of perception limits its possibilities and makes adults feel less encouraged to enjoy animation on their own terms. I want to push back against that by having my work made solely for an adult audience. I will use the medium of animation to explore psychology and highlight mental health issues that many people feel they must battle alone and deal with in silence. My goal is to create work that opens up conversations that many adults feel uncomfortable discussing. My artistic intent is to focus on opening these emotional doors that have been shut for far too long.
